Chai is an experienced Hard Surface artist who specializes in creating realistic weaponry, vehicles, and environments for video game & viz. He kickstarted his career after pioneering the popular Normalmaps For the Technical Modeler article, which acted as the workflow basis for many popular game studios to this day. Whether it's a simple pistol or an entire cityscape, the passion for his craft is evident in every project he works on. Taking pride in creating assets that not only look realistic, but also feel authentic to the world they inhabit.

My Process

I always start by identifying the client's requirements, game visual fidelity & Art Direction.
For example an FPS gun occupies more screen real estate than a tiny isometric gun, and will require higher detail.

The art commences with concepts & blockout models to establish the overall shapes.
For high fidelity, highpoly & baking follows, finally with lowpoly & texturing.
